New Vaccine Requirements for 6th Grade in NJ
Posted on Jun 11, 2008 Every child born on or after January 1, 1997, and entering or attending Grade Six in New Jersey, or a comparable age level special education program with an unassigned grade on or after September 1, 2008, shall have received one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) and one dose of a meningococcal-containing vaccine, such as the medically-preferred meningococcal conjugate vaccine(Menactra).
PNP has been routinely giving these two vaccines at either the 11 yr or 12 yr visits for the past few years as it is the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics to vaccinate against meningitis and give a TdaP booster at this time.
Those children turning 11 between now and the start of 6th grade will receive their vaccines at their annual checkup, there is no need to come sooner to receive the vaccines. Those children who turned 11 before January 1 2008 and have not been vaccinated yet will receive their vaccines at their 12 year old checkup. For any child who turned 11 between January 1st and the present who had a complete physical examination and did not receive these immunizations, please call the office you normally attend to schedule a nurse visit.
